SHIPMENTS (Cont'd

In connection with these shipments Mr. Dixon informed the Committee of the willingness of a young volunteer to place himself and an aeroplane at the disposal of the Committee for service in China, an offer which might be made use of in transporting medical supplies. The Committee appreciated the possibilities of this offer and asked Mr. Dixon to make it possible for further enquiries to be made into it.

REPORT OF CLOTHING AND COMFORTS SUB-COMMITTEE.

Dame Rachel Crowdy informed the Committee that of the £2,000 which the Sub-Committee had been authorised to spend approximately £1,350 had been expended in the purchase of 5,000 blankets and 1280 overcoats

She referred to the Committee the following points:

1. Payments.

The Metropolitan Ele ctric Light Company had asked for a deposit of £5 before proceeding to supply light to 12, Westbourne Terrace. The Committee decided that this and similar payments should be made by the Secretary and Treasurer by cheque counter- signed by a member of the Finance Sub-Committee, it being fur ther agreed that all payments should be made by cheque as far as possible.

2. Twenty bales of clothing collected by the China Campaign

Committee.

Dame Rachel asked whe ther these bales could be shipped by the Fund for the Relief of Distress in China free of freight, the China Campaign Committee being unwilling to remove their labels from the bales and merge them in the Fund's shipments.

It was decided that shipments could only receive the privilege of free freight if they were shipments of the Fund sent to the Central Committee at Shanghai for disposal.

REPORT FROM MEDICAL SUB-COMMITTEE.

The Medical Sub-Committee reported that offers had been received and accepted of donations in kind from Messrs. Dakin Bros., Virol Ltd., and Monsol Ltâ. The Hon. Secretary of the Sub-Committee also reported that he had obtained estimates for the supply of certain additional instruments from five well-known firms.

It was decided to accept the quotation of Messrs. Charles F. Thackray at a cost of approximately £651.15. 0. It was fur ther decided to obtain quotations for the supply of various vaccines and sera to be used for the wounded or as prophylaxis in refugee camps.

Photographs of the shipment of medical supplies from Liverpool were shown to the Committee.

PUBLICITY SUB-COMMITTEE.

It was decided to constitute a Publicity Sub-Committee con- sisting of Lady Layton, Mr.Rattenbury and Mr.F.C.Davies and to draw up a panel of speakers.

TOTAL OF THE FUND.

Mr. Hersee said that the fund now totalled £64,000, Mr. Dixon stating that a further sum of £3,000 had been received by the Conference of British Mi ssionary Societies.

It was decided to ask the Lord Mayor to place £20,000 at the disposal of the Committee.

This concluded the business of the meeting which ended at 5 p.m
